The purpose of the Operations Manager role

The Operations Manager plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth, safe, and efficient daily operations of a high-volume distribution center that operates 24/7 in a 5-shift system. As one of the Operations Managers on-site, you are fully responsible for the operational execution within your shift and act as the direct link between strategic direction and day-to-day performance on the warehouse floor.

Each Operations Manager leads a core team of approximately 6 to 8 Warehouse Managers and, together, oversees 200–300 employees per shift. You manage all operational aspects, from performance tracking and workforce planning to process improvement and interdepartmental coordination. You report directly to Site Management and work in close alignment with internal stakeholders to meet both company and customer KPIs.

With an average working week of 39.1 hours and a rotating shift model, flexibility and resilience are key. This is a hands-on leadership role with real impact, where you not only guide your team, but help shape the future of a fast-growing logistics operation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and optimize all operational processes within your assigned shift
  • Lead, motivate, and coach teams to achieve KPI’s and deliver top-level service
  • Monitor and analyze operational performance, implementing actions to ensure continuous improvement
  • Plan, coordinate, and prioritize workloads and resources to meet operational targets
  • Provide training, performance evaluations, and development opportunities for team members
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and safety regulations
  • Maintain clear communication and collaboration within the team and across departments
  • Support Warehouse Managers by ensuring they have the necessary resources to operate effectively
